The Art of the Snapshot: A Deep-dive into Composition Theory

During this two-session workshop we will think outside the box about the possibilities of photographic composition, reflect upon our compositional tendencies and habits, and experiment with new, creative ways to make images. To inspire us we’ll explore the history of the snapshot through the book The Art of the American Snapshot.

Session 1 will focus on the snapshot aesthetic and its potential value to us as photographers. During Session 2 students will present on a chapter from the book and share the photography they create for homework. The workshop will conclude with a constructive critique of the participants’ work.
