A Unique Window: Self-portraiture is a unique and deeply personal form of artistry that can offer an introspective journey. In this 12-hour workshop, we’ll delve into self-portraiture as a vehicle for self-discovery and visual storytelling. Throughout the class, you will learn the art of resourcefulness, a skill usually needed when you’re both the subject and photographer. We will think about experimentation with lighting, allowing you to produce emotionally resonant self-portraits. Our discussions and assignments will extend beyond technical aspects (like lighting, composition, focus, etc.). As we explore the intimate connection between photographer and subject, you’ll discover how to tune into your own body, emotions, and inner world as you become the subject, resulting in intimate and compelling self-portraits. We will study classic self-portraits, as well as immerse ourselves in some contemporary examples, to then practice creating our own self-portraits. We will also explore the idea of a selfie as a form of self-portraiture.
