Down By The River
The Roadtrip
March 16-23 2023
Long Distance Photo Expeditions
After two pandemic years where photography had to be about our immediate reality and surroundings, it’s time to give ourselves a new opportunity.
Let’s go out and start reimagining the frame from the unexpected findings on the road. or simply let our intuition do the job and shoot for us.
This trip was conceived to explore, appreciate and try to understand one of the less known areas of the United States. A trip that flirts with the banks of the Mississippi, its past, its music and its warmth.
A vertical journey geographically speaking, from north to south. But horizontal in the approach to its people, their environment and the context that defines them.
For Long Distance Photo Expeditions the photographic fact is never isolated from the human being.
The road trip is an unexpected journey that although planned, depends on the adventure.
Changing our minds about what we’ve planned, going off route, staying where things are going well or just skipping one stop because we feel like it.
It is a constant negotiation between the images we want, the time we have and where we are.
Down by the River is about giving ourselves the license to discover, to accept the unexpected visuals, to assume the challenge. The blues, the past, the contrast, the Ford pick-up. The unforgettable, a memory to build.
We will learn to jump out of a car, literally, with the spirit of the visual record of the environment that circumscribes us, from the author that each one of us is. We will learn to thread and add topics to finally be able to assemble the personal portrait of Down By The River.
Julio Estrada and Roberto Mata will be the mediators of the facts and the ideas, the bridge between what will be seen and what will be shown.
