The purpose of this photography award is to recognize the work of talented photographers documenting Calle 8 Festival’s expression of Cuban and Latin-American culture to Floridians.

Photographers with both a classic approach and innovative projects are welcome to enter.

The photography competition application is completely free.

Entry is open to everyone regardless of age and level of knowledge.

HOW TO ENTER:

· You can submit photographs taken with both digital and analogue cameras.

· The Calle 8 Festival Photo Contest 2022 is an open call, with no restriction on genre, process, or technique. All subjects and 2D photographic approaches are eligible.

· Your images need to be captured during Festival Calle 8 2023. March 12th.

The submitted photos must be in jpg format, 2000 px wide or high, 72DPI.

Files must not be larger than 5MB in size.

Other formats (TIFF, PSD etc) will not be reviewed.

· Any images which, in our opinion, could be offensive to some sensibilities will be excluded.

· Images must not infringe any copyrights or the intellectual property rights of any third party.

. Single photo CATEGORY: FROM 1 TO 3 images.

· Photo series CATEGORY: Between 5 and 8 imageS.

· Images must be sent to RMTFFLORIDA@gmail.com

· Please use wetransfer.com . Add full name, email address and phone number in the message box.

Submissions sent by any other platform will not be reviewed.

· Pictures must be renamed as follows:

yourname.jpg1 (custom name + sequence)

· Submitters agree that personal data including, but not limited to, name, mailing address, phone number, and email address may be collected, processed, stored and otherwise used  by Roberto Mata School Of Photography for the purposes of conducting and administering the Calle 8 Festival Photo Contest 2023.

· All entries are reviewed, shortlisted, and selected anonymously.

ABOUT CALLE OCHO

MUSIC FESTIVAL:

In 1988, the festival set the Guinness World Record with 119,986 people in the world’s longest conga line.

In 1990, a world-record-breaking 10,000-pound piñata was featured.

In 2000, the Guinness World Record was set for the world’s longest cigar.

In 2008, Calle Ocho broke the record for the most domino players at the event.

In 2010, the Florida legislature identified the Calle Ocho-Open House 8 festival as an official state festival.

In 2012, the festival broke the world record for the largest flag image ever created. The flag measured 250 feet long and 36 feet wide, and was marched down the street by over 100 volunteers.

Calle Ocho started in 1978 as a way for Cuban immigrants to express themselves and educate South Floridians about their culture in the community. The festival’s focus grew to include participation from all Latin American countries.

USAGE RIGHTS: Images will be used strictly in connection to the awards and will not be used for any other marketing purposes other than to promote the Festival Calle 8 Photo Contest. Images will not be resold or used by any other third party. If there is a request for such, we will forward that request to the photographer via e-mail.

TIMELINE:

Photos must be taken: MARCH 12TH, 2023

Deadline for submission: MARCH 26TH, 2023

Winners announcement: APRIL 16th, 2023

PRIZES:

Grand Winner: $1,000 – winner will be the single photograph with the highest score overall, regardless of whether it has been presented within the single or series category .

Single Photo Category Winner: $350

Photo Series Category Winner: $350

Honor Mention x 5: $50
